About Hilltop Cove

Honest numbers for a breezy day on the hill, worked out in your browser.

What it is

Hilltop Cove has five free tools: a wind chill calculator, a heat index calculator, a feels-like temperature calculator that picks the right one for the conditions, the Beaufort wind scale and a wind speed converter. Every tool works in °F and °C.

Where the formulas come from

Wind chill uses the index adopted in 2001 by the US National Weather Service and the Meteorological Service of Canada, with Environment and Climate Change Canada's frostbite risk levels. The heat index follows the NWS Weather Prediction Center's procedure step by step. The Beaufort scale follows the Met Office table, and unit conversions use the NIST factors. The tests behind the site check the results against the published NWS charts, and every tool page links its sources.

How it works

All calculations run in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Once a page has loaded it keeps working offline. Your preferred units are remembered in your browser's local storage.

What it is not

These are calculators, not forecasts or warnings. For the weather where you are, and for any warnings, check your national weather service.
